Mr. Carten lives in Calgary, Alberta and has been in the railway industry for more that 40 years.  He spent a career at Canadian Pacific working on massive projects such as the Mount Macdonald Tunnel construction through the Selkirk Mountains, led the Transload Development group for CP, and handled network strategy and restructuring duties across the entire CPKC network for many years.

Greg Karpo

Mr. Karpo resides west of Edmonton and has extensive operations experience, and over 40 years of railroading to providing knowledge and expertise to our client base.  Starting at CN in Signals and Communicatons, later operating trains as both a conductor, qualified locomotive engineer, and then company officer - Mr. Karpo finished his career as a respected industrial development officer at CN, helping new shippers with site location plans, third party operating plans, and safety and operations management issues.

Mr. Meldrum lives in Calgary and spent his railway career at CPKC where he was instrumental in providing conceptual track designs for many internal industrial and operational projects across the system.  Mr. Meldrum is recognized as an expert in designing industrial yards, transloads, and siding expansions, and continues to do so after his retirement from CPKC with Dominion Railway Services.

W.J. (Bill) Salmond

Mr. Salmond has over 50 years of experience in the North American railway industry and has assisted hundreds of clients for over a decade at Dominion Railway Services with comprehensive conceptual railway operational, site, and capacity expansion solutions.  Mr. Salmond enjoyed a highly successful career at CP where his experience in operations as both a train dispatcher, operating officer, and later senior network capacity planner provided an opportunity to work on highly strategic capacity expansion on the CP main line and elsewhere, the result of which continues to pay dividends to the company today.    Mr. Salmond lives in Calgary, Alberta and is the senior Dominion Railway Services associate managing the rail design and management services provided by our company.

Shawn I. Smith

Mr. Smith makes his home at Camrose, Alberta and has been in the railway industry for more than 40 years.  Starting his career at CN in operations then marketing and sales roles, he spent 18 years as an operations employee, supervisor, and later senior leader in the North American short line industry before joining CPKC as General Manager Strategic Network Development.  Later he became Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of both Northern Plains Rail Services and the Alberta Midland Railway Terminal.  He now helps lead Dominion Railway Services work in multi-faceted rail consulting initiatives and strategic projects where he leverages his executive, operations leadership, and commercial experience.

Karen Smith

Karen M. Smith has been a member of the Dominion Railway Services management team since its inception.  With a B.Sc. In Agriculture and having spent the first part of her career with Cargill; she has worked on projects related to both agricultural and related industrial activities, and serves as our Administrative Officer.  Karen is also a community volunteer with the Canadian Northern Society of Camrose, Meeting Creek, and Big Valley, Alberta - serving as a member of the executive and board.
